About the department

The recent establishment of separate and dedicated department of Biostatistics at AIIMS Kalyani would contribute significantly to the institution’s research capabilities, ensuring robust study designs, data analysis, and interpretation of results and making informed decisions to enhance patient care. As an independent department, it offers the needs of all the faculties, scientific staffs and students in the Institute in biostatistics teaching and methods for quantitative research in the health sciences. We have plan to expand this department soon.

In the era of evidence based medicine, AI and data science, the training of medical professionals, especially medical researchers, is considered incomplete without a thorough familiarity with the potential applications of biostatistical techniques. This knowledge is essential for planning research studies with scientifically and statistically valid designs, enabling researchers to draw valid and meaningful conclusions through the application of appropriate statistical methods. This discipline serves as a hub in conducting impactful research, analyzing healthcare data, and making informed decisions to advance patient care. Biostatistics, at its core, entails the application of statistical methods to medicine, biological sciences, and health-related research. Objectives:

• Enhanced Research Quality: The Department of Biostatistics will collaborate with various research units within AIIMS Kalyani to ensure rigorous study designs and appropriate statistical analyses, ultimately leading to high-quality research outcomes.
• Educational Opportunities and Capacity Building: The department will focus on teaching and training healthcare professionals, researchers, and students in the principles and applications of biostatistics, fostering a culture of data-driven research within the institution.
• Data-Driven Decision-Making: Department will actively participate in observational studies, clinical trials, epidemiological studies, and other research projects, providing crucial insights that guide evidence-based decision-making in patient care and healthcare management.
• Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Collaboration with other departments within AIIMS Kalyani, as well as external research institutions, will be encouraged to facilitate comprehensive and interdisciplinary research endeavours.
