The Central Pharmacy at AIIMS Kalyani became operational since April of 2024 and ever since has been actively ensuring the issuance of medicines for the IPD patients. Central Pharmacy is responsible for the storage, management and the distribution of different drugs. The department issues tablets, injections, syrups, inhalation medicines, topical creams, powders and IV fluids to the different wards as per their requirements.
All the drugs supplied to the Pharmacy are inspected and verified by a Verification Committee, comprising of Faculty, Tutors, Nursing Officers and a representative from the Pharmacy. Only after the drugs are verified by the members, are the medicines issued to the departments.
The pharmacy is responsible for creating spreadsheets with lists of medicines and circulating them amongst departments, and subsequently compiling the requirements received from the departments. This list is then forwarded through efiles for further processing and procurement. Different drugs require different storage conditions, and hence their management becomes a crucial task. To ensure proper storage of items, in addition to differently labeled racks, ice-lined refrigerators are kept at the Pharmacy.
The entire inventory system went online from Dec 01,2024 and ever since all medicines are being issued to the departments through HMIS/CDAC portals. This ensures not only more transparency but also aids in efficient inventory management.
