The Department of Community Medicine and Family Medicine aims to orient students towards community health and produce community physicians. The department envisages identifying new avenues in public health to improve the health and well being of community as a whole. The main focus of the department remains to develop a sustainable model of community health services that will help in capacity building and strengthening of other health organizations at state, national and international level.

Community and Clinical Exposure is provided to the MBBS students by the department quite early in the first year itself. The department is currently working towards developing model Rural (PHC Sreenagar, Block Chakdaha) and Urban health training centers (Kalyani Municipality) for teaching, training, health care service and research. Currently two research projects are being carried out by the department. Besides this the faculty has published 15 papers
in National and International journals of repute, after joining AIIMS Kalyani, and many more, before. They have also been involved in writing chapters in books and modules.
